Frances came to the United States at the age of 19. She married and had three children, but her husband decided he was not cut out to be a husband and father. As a single mother, she put herself through school, working multiple jobs to provide food and a home for her family while paying tuition. She finally retired at 77, hoping that with Social Security and some savings, she could make it.

“I thought I could do it, but I was praying the boiler would hold out. Then one day, there was just no hot water. I’m thinking I can repair it, but then there’s not going to be much left. I’ve never asked anyone for anything. I’m as self-sufficient as I can be. And I’ve lived here for 20 years. If I wasn’t here, I don’t know where I’d be right now.”

Habitat Bucks had a new boiler installed just in time for the cold weather. Frances can now remain in her home safe and warm.
