2010.06.03: Habitat for Humanity raises walls on Dow-supported home!

Since 1983, The Dow Chemical Company has sponsored more than 20,000 Habitat for Humanity builds around the world, and recently, that number got even bigger when Dow broke ground on a four-unit townhome on Colonial Avenue in Bristol. To celebrate the partnership with Dow and Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County, a luncheon and wall-raising was held on the homebuilding site.

“A family in Bucks County needs $64,000 simply to survive, making the need for safe and affordable homes in our neighborhoods great.” said Habitat for Humanity Resource Development Director, Billy Dunn, starting the program, “We’re standing on the solution to that – a solution that Dow has helped become a reality.”

Youth Faith Build, happening July 14 through 17, is a week set aside for students ages 16-22 to come together and build a home, a future and their faith. Imagine coming together as students to serve those in need, be challenged in your faith and enjoy evening activities with new friends. Each day, we’ll meet at the Habitat for Humanity offices in Chalfont, and then break up to do different projects including constructions on homes, working in the ReStore and serving in our community.

Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County will raise a wall and break ground on the Colonial Avenue homebuilding site in Bristol tomorrow, May 26, at 12noon, during a luncheon. Habitat is building in partnership with The Dow Chemical Company, who is donating volunteer hours, financial support and state-of-the-art energy efficient building materials.

2010.05.03: National Women Build Week

In the decade since Habitat for Humanity International officially created the Women Build program, thousands of women volunteers have built more than 1,650 Women Build homes through their local affiliates. To celebrate that accomplishment, Habitat and Lowe’s, the underwriter of the Women Build program, have declared the week before Mother’s Day, May 3-9, National Women Build Week.

The joy gained in witnessing another's happiness is nearly unmatched in its simplicity and greatness -- join us as we celebrate the accomplishments of our newest Habitat for Humanity homeowner families at our next House Dedication, Saturday, May 15 at 4 pm. We will be welcoming the very first homeowners in our “green” building, the Stitchery: Brandon Strouse, T’Wonda Saunders and Patty Hunter.

2010.04.12: Habitat for Humanity breaks ground on Thrivent-supported home!

Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County recently broke ground on a new homebuilding site on Liberator Street in Levittown. Habitat is building this home in partnership with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, who awarded the affiliate with a home sponsorship for the 2010 calendar year. On hand for the groundbreaking included representatives from Lower Bucks Lutheran Churches, members of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, leaders from local Lutheran Churches, and board and staff members from Habitat for Humanity.

Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County will be hosting Lynn Riley, "Superwoman of the Sax," at Bucks County Community College in Newtown on March 27. The Jazz in Bloom concert will benefit Habitat's Youth United program and its goal to raise funds to build a home at the affiliate's current homebuilding site in Perkasie. 



2010.02.24: Local politicians help celebrate Colonial Avenue “green home” groundbreaking!

Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County recently broke ground at their newest green homebuilding site on Colonial Avenue in Bristol. Several local politicians and Habitat for Humanity staff posed for a ceremonial snapshot wearing hard hats and with shovels in hand.

“In its 20th year, Habitat for Humanity continues to help our neighbors rebuild their lives every day, and I’m proud to have been a part of the groundbreaking,” said Congressman Patrick Murphy.

2010.01.15: Calling all Bucks County Women!

Did you know that poverty and substandard housing, even here in Bucks County, disproportionately affect women and their children? Of the calls that Habitat Bucks receives inquiring about our homeownership program, more than 80% are made by women. Women Build is meant to provide a comfortable, non-threatening atmosphere in which women can develop construction skills, while creating the opportunity for more women to achieve homeownership.
